Incorporating three-minute workouts into your day could be the key to toning your physique and improving wellbeing, experts claim. Nutritional therapist Natalie Fader, from Canada, explained how ‘exercise snacks’ – a quick routine of three to five exercises performed for a few minutes – can provide an array of health benefits. Ms Fader tried the latest fitness trend herself, claiming her body shape is already changing and she’s able to hold a plank for three minutes instead of 30 seconds.
‘For all my “I don’t have time to exercise” people listen up! Turns out if we do these short little workouts randomly throughout our day it pays off big time,’ Ms Fader wrote on Instagram. ‘You build muscle which has huge benefits like improved sleep, hormone regulation, improved mood/mindset, etc.’
The ‘exercise snacks’ trend has gained attention on social media, with a short video explaining the concept going viral and exceeding a staggering 7.8 million views. Many have expressed their support for the concept, with one commenter writing, ‘Simple but brilliant. Thank you for introducing me to this concept … this sounds doable and sustainable.’ Another added, ‘Glad to see people are making movement a movement!! Exercise snacks to the world.’ However, some poked fun at the phrase and expressed their desire for actual snacks while exercising.
The movements performed are decent body weight exercises that activate core muscle groups. An ‘exercise snack’ is a routine of five different exercises such as single-leg knee bends, sit to stand, or single-leg quarter squats performed continuously for one minute with a one-minute passive recovery break in-between. The concept could be enough to maintain movement and enhance the quality of life.
So, if you’re looking for a simple and effective way to tone your body ahead of summer, consider incorporating quick ‘exercise snacks’ into your daily routine. Just three minutes can change everything.
