Ten months after the death of the master Fernando Botero, the city of Rome pays tribute to the outstanding Colombian artist with an exhibition of eight of his outdoor sculptures, located in streets and squares in the historic center of the city.

The exhibition “Botero a Roma”, curated by the artist’s daughter, Lina Botero, is part of the celebration of the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Colombia. These relations have been characterized by deep ties in the fields of education and culture.

Organized by the Botero Foundation, the exhibition seeks to continue spreading the artist’s legacy worldwide. and extends through emblematic places in the Italian capital, such as the Pincio terrace and Piazza Mignanelli.

Fernando Botero maintained a close relationship with Italy. In Pietrasanta, where his ashes rest, the sculptor, painter and draftsman worked for decades with local artisans for the casting of their works and in the marble workshops characteristic of this town in Tuscany.

Born in Medellín in 1932, Botero is considered the second most recognized Colombian worldwide.after Nobel Prize winner for Literature Gabriel García Márquez. The exhibition in Rome not only celebrates his art but also his enduring connection with Italy, highlighting the cultural and artistic impact he left in both countries.
