San Salvador. The Museum of Art of El Salvador and the Embassy of Panama in El Salvador will inaugurate the exhibition of the Panamanian artist Nessim Bassan next Wednesday, June 21 at 6:30 pm

Bassan’s work uses abstract elements to explore personal and everyday situations, endowing these materials and forms with a unique humanity. His works suggest stories and, in some cases, characters, through the ingenious use of forms and their placement in space.

Bassan’s personal poetics establishes a connection between the visual constructions of his works and the situations of daily life. Whether subtly, as in “Picaflor suspended in front of my window”, or more obviously, as in “Liquor store on fourth street”, his works invite us to reflect on his own experiences and personal relationships.

His creations can evoke personal and intimate situations, with the intention of suggesting emotions and experiences as in his work “Mirlo”, in which through the representation of a bird that sings at midnight, he offers a delicate reference to overcoming darkness and the arrival of dawn, inviting to find peace in difficult moments.

However, the common element that unites all his works is compositional exploration and the use of materials, which configure new artistic territories and invite us to delve into surfaces that represent new worlds to discover, recognize and explore.

This exhibition, the result of more than five decades of work, offers a journey from his first works produced in the late sixties to a large body of work created today.

He continues to produce countless pieces using materials like paper, wood, and paint to achieve layers and textures that intertwine into playful narratives.

Much of his work is encapsulated in Plexiglas, a transparent shell that protects and magnifies the delicacy of the materials, adding a dramatic touch to his creations.

Faced with the bombardment of violent images in the media, Bassan’s works transport you to a world of fantasy and dreams, full of minute details and perfection. The color palette used by Nessim Bassan leans towards whites and pastel tones, but there are also contrasts that break with monochrome, providing surprising accents and dualities.
