From the Renaissance to today, the practice of pastel continues to develop. An exhibition, which ends at the Musée d’Orsay, in Paris, highlights this still relatively unknown heritage.

At 25, Ophélie is passionate about pastels, greasy colored sticks that she learned to use on her own. “I draw a lot of inspiration from everyday life. For example here, I am doing a self-portrait in my studio“, confides the young artist. Neither painting nor really drawing, pastel seduced her for its precision. Ophelia can take more than 30 hours for a work, and shares her progress on social networks with her subscribers. Like her, many followers share their tips with beginners.

A giant fresco in the heart of the museum

Before the connected artists, others were interested in this technique. The Musée d’Orsay, in Paris, presents an exhibition of pastels by Millet, Redon and even Edgar Degas, who made them his favorite tool. Inheriting this ancestral art, in the heart of the museum, Fine Arts students create a giant fresco before the eyes of visitors. Among them, a Ukrainian student draws his inspiration from the war that is devastating his country.
