Known as a sore thumb, but remained a mystery to many: That is Joseph Beuys. May 12th marks the 100th birthday of the world-famous artist. Someone who knew him well was his confidante and secretary Heiner Bastian from Berlin – although the word “secretary” was never appropriate, says Bastian himself. He is a poet, art expert and collector; the art collections in Chemnitz and Dresden, for example, owe him donations and loans. “Freie Presse” asked him about his memories of Joseph Beuys.
