The bank accounts of BAB and Exim Bank chairman Nazrul Islam Majumder and his wife Nachreen Islam have been seized. At the same time, they have been asked to suspend transactions in their children’s personal bank accounts.
On Sunday (August 25), Bangladesh Bank’s financial intelligence unit Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) sent instructions to the country’s banks and financial institutions to freeze the accounts. A senior official of BFIU confirmed this information.
According to the instructions, all transactions through the personal and business accounts of the frozen accounts will be stopped. For the next 30 days, you will not be able to make any kind of transactions. If necessary, the transaction will be extended during suspension.
BFIU’s letter said that relevant provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Rules will apply to this order to suspend transactions. In the letter, Nazrul Islam Majumdar, his wife Nachreen Islam’s name, national identity card information is given. Due to suspension of account they will not be able to withdraw any money from now on.
The BFIU directive further states that banks and financial institutions have been asked to send account related information or documents such as account opening form, KYC and transaction statement etc. to them within five working days from the date of issue of the letter in case of suspension of an account.
