Dubai: The court acquitted the expatriate woman who was caught with cannabis at the Dubai International Airport. The court acquitted them according to the new drug law that came into force in the UAE earlier this year. The case proceedings were in the Dubai Criminal Court.

Cannabis was recovered from a South American woman at the Dubai International Airport. The incident happened last April. When the luggage was checked at the airport, two cigarette rolls were found to contain ganja. The woman brought 61 grams of cannabis from the country.

The woman confessed to the crime during questioning about bringing ganja. But they claimed that it was for their personal use. When the woman’s urine was tested, it was found that she had used cannabis. There were no other cases against them. Her lawyer argued in court that she was a first-time offender and wanted a reduced sentence under the country’s new drug law. With this, the court acquitted them. The verdict can be appealed within two weeks.
