The Ministry of Human Resources has informed that a maximum of fifteen days will be allowed to change the sponsorship of foreign workers who have been reported by the employer to be absent from work.

Riyadh: The Saudi Ministry of Human Resources requires foreign workers who have been registered as fugitives (Hurub) to complete the sponsorship change process within 15 days. The ministry also stated that if the transfer process is not completed within this time frame, the worker will remain in Hurub.

The ministry gave the explanation as part of the reforms made in the labor laws in the country. The Ministry of Human Resources has informed that a maximum of fifteen days will be allowed for the change of sponsorship of foreign workers who have been reported by their employers to be absent from work.
The prescribed time limit applies when an application is submitted to the Ministry seeking relaxation in the Hurub proceedings and after the Ministry obtains approval for the transfer.

In case of change of sponsorship the new sponsor will have to take over the existing dues on behalf of the employee. The ministry also explained that since Hurub was recorded, no liability would remain on the old sponsored worker.

At the same time, the Ministry of Commerce revealed that more than 450 cases registered this year as part of anti-benami business measures in Saudi Arabia have been handed over to public prosecution. Benami transactions are detected with the help of various agencies linked through ‘Tasathur’ program. For this purpose, more than 1,27,000 field inspections were organized this year. Action was taken against 646 firms that violated the Benami Act. Through this, more than 14 million riyals were collected as fines.
