She was neglecting her work due to some rather serious personal problems which, in the end, pushed the production to eliminate without any warning the character of Brenda who she had been playing for four years. Shannen Doherty has revealed for the first time why she was kicked out of “Beverly Hills 90210” while she was at the height of her success.
The occasion was the last episode of her very popular podcast “Let’s Be Clear”, where the actress – suffering from terminal cancer which has already led her to plan her funeral – had her “brother” as a guest television” Brandon, aka Jason Priestley. “The twins are back and let’s dig into the history of 90210,” Doherty wrote on Instagram, supplied with the clip with the interview with his friend, before telling in detail what happened at the time of his sudden departure from the successful TV series.
“I was in a really horrible marriage and things came up in that marriage that made it very difficult for me to consistently be on time at work. This became a big problem for the rest of the cast – confessed the actress, married at the time to her colleague Ashley Hamilton -. I don’t think anyone knew that my father was very ill and that my husband was a drug addict. At times he became incredibly violent and it was devastating for me. I didn’t even want to go out, because I was afraid he would go and get drugs.”
Not being able to imagine how serious her personal problems were, the production of “Beverly Hills 90210″ therefore decided to liquidate her without many compliments and even today Doherty regrets that lack of support and empathy. “It wasn’t anyone’s responsibility but mine, but I certainly wish someone had spoken to me heart to heart, said, ‘Listen, this is going to be the end result, you know? The end result will be that you get fired because none of us are willing to put up with it anymore. I understand that you have a problem in your personal life, but this cannot lead to work.” However, none of this happened and Brenda found herself out of the series.
The actress recently revealed that she had been fired from “Charmed” due to friction with her set partner Alyssa Milano, although at the time her entourage advised her to say that the choice to leave was hers. “I remember my representatives looking at me at the time and saying, ‘No, no, no, your career won’t survive another layoff, so we’ll just say you’ve chosen to leave.’ I started laughing, retorting, “Who’s going to believe I’m crazy enough to leave a hit show?” I actually wish I was older and wiser, because I would have sued and been honest about the rumors and misconceptions about me. ».
