Pamplona Planetarium Hosts Perseid Observation and Screening
The Pamplona Planetarium is hosting a special session on Monday, August 12, to observe the Perseids, a dazzling display of shooting stars. The event will take place in the vicinity of Javier Castle and will feature live music by the collective Suakai and a special adaptation of their work ‘Natura.’ Prior to the observation, there will be a session in the planetarium’s dome led by astronomers, followed by a round-trip bus service.
The Perseids, also known as the “tears of Saint Lawrence,” will reach their peak activity between August 12 and 13. The moment of full darkness will be at 10 PM, and for the following two hours, attendees can explore the wonders of the night sky with the guidance of the planetarium’s astronomers. Javier Armentia, Iñaki Ordoñez, and Fernando Jauregui will narrate the celestial spectacle, sharing the myths and stories associated with the stars.
Telescopes will be available for use, courtesy of Astronavarra. Additionally, the planetarium is hosting a separate screening earlier in the day at 6:30 PM in the Tornamira room, focusing on the science behind the Perseids. The screening costs six euros and tickets can be purchased online.
A bus service will be provided to and from Javier, departing from the planetarium at 8 PM and returning at midnight. The cost for the bus is twelve euros and tickets are available for purchase on the planetarium’s website. In case the observation is canceled, the bus fare will be refunded.
