The turnout in the elections to the State Duma in the country exceeded most forecasts, this allows us to expect that the final figure will approach 50%, said on Saturday, September 18, political scientist, head of the Department of Political Science and International Relations of the Chelyabinsk State University, Vasily Zorin, in an interview with REN TV.

“The turnout has surpassed the forecasts made by the majority of experts. It actually predicts that the final turnout will approach 50%. This suggests that the elections are of interest. “, – he stressed.

The political scientist noted that a year ago, elections to the regional parliament were held in the Chelyabinsk region, which also lasted three days, during this period the turnout in the region was 33%. Now the country is approaching this indicator after two days of voting, Zorin stressed.

“People appreciated the convenience of the three-day voting. The high turnout is also associated with the activity of parties that urge their supporters to vote. Much depends on mobilization projects. The party that brings its supporters to vote wins, and the party that does not take a very responsible attitude to mobilization loses, ”the expert expressed his opinion.

Zorin also added that the opposition will mobilize voters on the last election day, so this effort may be overdue.

Earlier that day, Pamfilova said that the turnout in the elections to the State Duma in Russia at 15:00 Moscow time exceeded 25%. She clarified that this figure does not include remote electronic voting.

In turn, a member of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation Pavel Andreev said that the turnout in remote electronic voting (DEG) in seven regions of the country ranged from 73% to 80%.

In 2021, elections to the State Duma are held for the first time in a new, three-day format. September 19 is the main voting day, and September 17 and 18 are optional.

The possibility of electronic voting is provided to residents of Moscow, Murmansk, Kursk, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov and Yaroslavl regions, as well as Sevastopol.

Simultaneously with the elections to the State Duma, on a single voting day, direct elections are to be held for the heads of nine Russian constituent entities (in three more regions, deputies of the Legislative Assembly will elect the highest administrative persons) and 39 regional parliaments.
