RIYADH: There will be a team of experts to check the quality of dates distributed in Masjid-ul-Haram of Makkah. The prevention and care department under the Iruharam office has deputed an expert team to check the dates distributed in the harem. Dates checked and quality assured by the team will be distributed in the harem.

Hassan Alsuwaihari, head of the department, said that a special team has been appointed to conduct field inspections to ensure the quality of dates given to fasting people during Ramadan. About twelve such tests will be conducted in the field and in the laboratory. Moisture content, percentage of iron and zinc content, fungal-coliform bacteria infection, weight and size of figs are tested.

A license to prepare Iftar in the Haram during Ramadan will be given to those who provide the highest standards of service and according to the prescribed conditions. Alsuwaihari said that there should be a commitment in meeting the quantity and quality of dates.
