Experts explain why there will also be a 4th vaccination – coronavirus

by time news

Two experts campaigned on Thursday for compulsory vaccination from February. A fourth vaccination seems to be necessary.

There are only a few days left until compulsory vaccination in Austria comes into force. A first draft was worked out for a month and officially handed over to the National Council on December 16th. Now the “COVID-19 Vaccination Law” will finally be discussed next Monday in the Health Committee. This starts with a public expert hearing at 2 p.m. There it is then checked, discussed and, under certain circumstances, one or the other change is made.

But what are the pros and cons of compulsory vaccination? The pharmacologist Markus Zeitlinger and the medical law expert Karl Stöger were guests on Thursday on the ORF “ZIB2”. Together they answered the questions from moderator Margit Laufer.

Repeated vaccinations are also reasonable

Zeitlinger first explained why compulsory vaccination is also justified for young people. There is no age group in which the cost-benefit analysis is not positive. The question to ask yourself. was whether people should be forced to (only) protect themselves, then it would be legitimate to oblige only the elderly and vulnerable population group to jaukerl. If the aim is to protect the system, it is also legitimate to issue general vaccination requirements.

Karl Stöger also sees compulsory vaccination for young people as justifiable. Because they have a lot of social contacts and can thus pass the virus on to everyone, including older people. The age limit of 14 years was chosen by the legislature with “caution”, since it is only from this age that one is capable of making decisions in a legal sense.

Zeitlinger then explained that the obligation to vaccinate must be considered independently of Omikron. Because it’s too late for this wave, there’s no need to discuss it, he explained. However, when it comes to compulsory vaccination, one cannot refer to a specific vaccine per se. Then he made a surprising announcement. Because the current draft law provides for three mandatory vaccinations. However, the expert also assumes that there will be other stitches. The fourth bite should already be done with a dose adapted to the new mutations. He assumes “that many people will have to get another booster”.

Laufer wanted to know from Stöger whether there was a reasonable limit to the number of vaccinations. “The limit for weighing up is whether I have other options to prevent the health system from being overloaded”. If this is not the case, vaccinations should be given more often. However, the lawyer already sees a catch in the law. He sees the question of penalties as the biggest sticking point. He was convinced that this question would still have to be sharpened.
