Beijing: Experts have rejected reports of a military coup against Chinese President Xi Jinping. They point to Xi’s absence from the public stage after the Shanghai Corporation Summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, as the main reason for the rumours.

International media also picked up on the news as social media circulated that Xi had been removed from his post as head of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and was under house arrest.

However, Adil Brar, a journalist and Chinese subject expert, says that the strict Covid quarantine rules followed by China are keeping the President away from the public stage. China’s covid policy is that everyone coming from abroad should remain in quarantine. He also shared a screenshot showing that there are no restrictions on air travel in China.
