Exploring in Upper Austria: FPÖ demands clear text from ÖVP

by time news

He is “not a job hopper”, says FPÖ boss Haimbuchner before the negotiations about a new edition of black and blue in Upper Austria.

In the Upper Austrian state election, which was struck on Sunday, it was possible for the first time to give preferential votes on the state list. Most of them were received by the respective party leaders. In absolute numbers, Governor Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP) was given preferential votes, followed by FPÖ top candidate Manfred Haimbuchner. The two met today, Wednesday, for the first exploratory discussion about a possible new edition of Black-Blue in the country.

Specifically, Szelzer received 128,227 preferential votes on the state list. He also got 8718 via the constituency list – but this could also be voters who have also ticked his name on the state list.

Haimbuchner was able to unite 72,154 preferential votes. In addition, there are 9,900 in the constituency – which is significantly more than in 2015, when he received 5,570. SPÖ top candidate for regional councilor Birgit Gerstorfer received 36,171 nominations (plus 3409 on the constituency list), Green chief regional councilor Stefan Kaineder received 33,911 plus 2751 regional preferential votes. His running in the state elections brought MFG top candidate Joachim Aigner 7,124 direct votes (plus 1,418), while the front man of the Neos, Felix Eypeltauer, has 6657 (plus 1,278 regional).

“We managed the departments very well”

Of course, the preferential votes have no direct influence on the government negotiations that Stelzer began today, Wednesday. Regardless of this, one thing is certain: the country chief and election winner wants to form the new government as quickly as possible. His previous liberal deputy Manfred Haimbuchner, with whom he conducted the first negotiations, was just as clear: he was not a “job hopper” and he expected a clear statement from the ÖVP with whom it was aiming for a coalition, emphasized the FPÖ chairman.

And he stated: “We managed the departments very well”. Therefore, the conversation on Wednesday is not a “first round of getting to know each other”. It is now up to the ÖVP to announce with whom they want to conduct intensive negotiations, “said Haimbuchner.
