Explosion at Residential Building in Stockholm Prompts Police Response

Late on Monday evening, the police were called to a residential building in Vasastan, a neighborhood in central Stockholm, following reports of an explosion. Authorities promptly arrived at the scene after receiving an alarm from a resident about a loud bang heard in the stairwell.

Upon arrival, the police discovered that the stairwell was filled with smoke. “We received an alarm from a resident at a quarter past eleven that a loud bang had been heard in the stairwell. When we get there, we can see that it is smoke-filled inside the stairwell,” stated police spokesperson Carina Skagerlind.

The cause of the explosion is still unknown, and the National Bomb Squad has been called in to investigate any potential items found at the scene. As of now, no injuries have been reported, and all residents of the affected building and individuals in a restaurant on the ground floor safely evacuated onto the street.

Witnesses say that a window in the building broke as a result of the suspected explosion. The police have initiated a preliminary investigation into the incident, classifying it as public dangerous devastation.

More updates on the situation are expected as the investigation progresses.
