An explosion took place in a Shiite mosque in the city of Kandahar in southern Afghanistan, which killed at least 32 people, Al-Jazeera TV reported, citing health authorities. At least 45 more people were injured.

The incident took place at the Bibi Fatima Mosque, the largest Shia mosque in the city. The fact of the explosion was confirmed by a spokesman for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Kari Syed Hosti. According to him, special forces of the Taliban (members of the terrorist movement Taliban, banned in the Russian Federation) arrived in the area, “to determine the nature of the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

One eyewitness told AFP that he heard three explosions. Another eyewitness told the Associated Press that four suicide bombers attacked the mosque.

Sources in hospitals told Al Jazeera that medical facilities are filled with injured people. They fear that the number of victims will grow.
