Kabul: 18 people were killed in a massive explosion near a mosque in Herat, western Afghanistan. 23 people were injured. The incident took place just before the start of prayers at Gazarga Mosque yesterday.
Top pro-Taliban cleric Imam Mujib ur Rehman Ansari and his security forces were among those killed. Ansari had previously called for the beheading of those working against the Taliban regime.
Early last month Another pro-Taliban cleric, Rahimullah Haqqani, was killed in an ISIS suicide bombing at a madrassa in Kabul. The death toll could rise further. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
