Watan Al-Youm: The number of local sheep exported to the Gulf markets, especially Saudi Arabia, has reached 588 thousand heads since the beginning of this year, according to what the Director of the Directorate of Agriculture in Mafraq said, Majdi Al-Omar, on Wednesday.
Al-Omar considered that the export of this number of sheep since the beginning of this year is a “record number”, as the average annual export is usually between 400 and 500 thousand heads.
He expected the pace of exports to increase during the remaining months of this year, especially after the lambing in July, noting that 10 new veterinary quarries had taken over, as well as the fact that the Surra veterinary quarry contributed to an increase in the number of veterinary quarries. to export sheep.
Al-Omar emphasized that sheep export operations to the Gulf markets bring numerous benefits, both to exporters and the shipping sector, and also contribute to strengthening the state’s treasury and ensuring the sustainability of the livestock sector, which is considered one of of the vital economic sectors.
