During the fifth month of this year, Colombia recorded the highest figure for a month of May in its entire history.

According to data from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, exports amounted to 1,958.5 million dollars.marking a growth of 12.5% ​​compared to the same period of the previous year.

The agricultural and non-mining industrial sector was the main driver of this achievement, highlighting products such as bananaswith an increase of 104.5% in its exports; dielectric transformers, with an increase of 90.9%; Tahiti lemon with a growth of 46.3%; and polyvinyl chloride, which registered an increase of 30.7%.

In terms of volume, exports also showed robust growth of 15.2%, reaching a total of 3.9 million tons. of non-mining products exported, compared to 3.4 million tons the previous year.

The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Luis Carlos Reyes Hernández, celebrated these results He stressed that these results were achieved in a context of global economic slowdown and lower external demand. He also underlined the government’s commitment to strengthening industrial policy to promote products with higher added value and conquer new international markets.

Among the main destinations for Colombian exports in the first five months of the year, Belgium stands outwith an increase of 51%; China with a growth of 42%; Venezuela with an increase of 38.4%; Germany with an increase of 33%; Mexico with an increase of 22.2%; and Chile with a growth of 4%.
