The custody of 178 people arrested in connection with the Kaniyamur school violence has been extended for another 15 days.
Smt. Ramalingam daughter (17) of Periyanesalur village, Cuddalore district. Ivar was studying Plus 2 in a private school in Kaniyamur, Kallakurichi district, and died in a mysterious manner on the 13th in the school premises.

Violence broke out during the protest against the student’s death and school vehicles were burnt. More than 300 people, including the executives of the People’s Authority Organization and the Periyar Dravida Kazhagam, have been arrested for indulging in violence.
At this stage, those arrested in connection with the violence are in Vellore, Cuddalore and Trichy Central Jails. The Kallakurichi court extended the judicial custody of 178 people for another 15 days and allowed them to be kept in jail till August 16.
