Rabat – Calls for tenders relating to the extension of the airports of Marrakech, Agadir and Tangier will be launched in the coming weeks, said Tuesday the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil.
“These projects are intended to double the capacity of airports in the wake of supporting the dynamics experienced by air transport”, specified the minister in a response to a question on “The development and modernization of airport infrastructures”, asked by the group of the National Rally of Independents, during the oral questions session in the Chamber of Advisors.
Ahead of preparations for the important deadlines planned in Morocco, the ministry is working to achieve the objectives set, consisting of increasing the capacity of all Moroccan airports to 80 million passengers per year, instead of the current 40 million, he said. noted.
Furthermore, the minister noted that the extension work at Rabat-Salé airport should be completed at the end of this year, noting the extension of Tetouan airport after the opening of the new runway, and the programming of the extension of Mohammed V airport in Casablanca.
On the other hand, Mr. Abdeljalil stressed that the National Airports Office had scheduled the extension of Marrakech airport in 2019, a project postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring that traffic in 2024 experienced an unexpected increase of 40% compared to 2019.
