It will be extended more than 1.6 kilometers on the east side, in the municipalities of Láncara and Sarria
Adif will invest 21.6 million euros to extend the La Puebla de San Julián variant, in Lugo, within the improvement and modernization works of the Orense-Monforte de Lemos-Lugo railway corridor.

The 7.2-kilometre La Puebla de San Julián bypass on the Monforte de Lemos-Lugo section of the León-La Coruña line, in operation since 2018, contributes to increasing the safety and permeability of the line -by having suppressed fourteen level crossings of the previous layout- and reduce the travel times of the route.
The variant is part of the layout designed to connect the city of Lugo with the high-speed rail. It has two tunnels (As Cortes, 520 meters long, and Torrente, 1.4 kilometres) and four viaducts between 145.5 and 630 meters long, as well as four underpasses and an overpass at the intersection with the highway. The action that Adif will undertake will extend the variant to the east by more than 1.6 kilometers, through the municipalities of Láncara and Sarria, culminating the initial project of 9 kilometers, which had been segregated into two actions.
High speed corridor to Galicia
In this way, it continues to promote the renovation of the 117 kilometers of the Orense-Monforte de Lemos-Lugo section that, from Orense, connects with the high-speed corridor to Galicia, improving its reliability, comfort and travel time parameters.
The expansion works will not affect rail circulation and include, among others, the construction of a new platform and the connection with the existing infrastructure; the assembly of auxiliary routes for provisional and work situations; execution and replacement of security and communications installations; and the hoisting of catenary poles, execution and replacement of electrification.
Likewise, the ripping (lateral displacement) of the track will be addressed for the connection with the new platform between kilometer points 1/586.6 and 1/677.8 and the disassembly of auxiliary tracks and the section that will remain in disuse.
