Extension of the Zemamra city sewage treatment plant

Zemamra – In response to the rapid population growth in the city of Zemamra (province of Sidi Bennour), the Autonomous Intercommunal Authority for the Distribution of Water, Electricity and Liquid Sanitation Management of the provinces of El Jadida and Sidi Bennour (RADEEJ) has decided to launch a project to extend the city’s wastewater treatment plant to meet the growing needs of the population.

This project, with a total cost of around 25 million dirhams, aims to strengthen the capacities of the station, so that it can treat around 3,250 cubic meters of wastewater per day, for a population estimated at around 42,500 people, explains RADEEJ in a press release.

In response to current requirements, the plant, in its new version, will undergo a change in treatment technology, moving from treatment technology based on natural lagooning to what is called aerated lagooning treatment technology.

This is done through pre-treatment, secondary treatment by natural lagooning via aeration basins, tertiary treatment and solar drying of the sludge, details the same source.

The new technology will help increase the plant’s performance and treatment efficiency, thereby improving the quality of life of residents and reducing the environmental impact resulting from wastewater discharges.

It is worth noting that the extension works began in December last year and are expected to be completed by the end of the current year.
