Smartphones meet cinema
Danny Boyle, the visionary filmmaker, and Anthony Dod Mantle, the director of photography, chose to film sequences of “28 Years Later” using iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models. These devices are capable of recording 4K video with professional color profiles like Apple Prores and Log.
Boyle said that iPhones were used in violent scenes “to emphasize its impact,” adding, “Now that the 4K is available on a phone, you can use it.”
He acknowledged the contribution of other cameras, saying, “Sony is desperate to say: ‘Do not let everyone say that it was recorded only with the iPhone.’ but the iPhones played a key role and that cannot be denied.”
