DIG/ What amount have the Transition authorities really disbursed in order to clear Gabon’s debt arrears with its traditional donors?

According to the Ministry of the Economy and Participations, Gabon has cleared its debt to the ADB for an amount of 27.5 billion FCFA.

In this same vein, on November 9, 2023, the country settled its outstanding debt arrears to the Public Treasury for the benefit from the Islamic Development Bank for an amount of 10.24 billion FCFA.

“This action paved the way for the lifting of Gabon’s suspension at the counters of this important partner. Work on the Terre Nouvelle watershed project, financed by the IDB, will therefore be able to resume shortly”indicates Minister Mays Mouissi in his 100-day report at the head of this department.

In the same vein, Gabon also settled more than 6 billion FCFA in arrears as of October 31, 2023 to the World Bank.

“The expected impact is the resumption of economic cooperation and projects such as access to basic services in rural areas and capacity building, digital transformation, support for the development of skills for employability, development of statistics in Gabon”, underlines the government member.

As for the IMF, after the settlement of more than 11 billion in arrears, an evaluation mission is expected in Libreville in the coming weeks.

In total, 319 billion FCFA of debt were repaid in September 2023, 31.99 billion FCFA in October 2023 and 30.4 billion FCFA in November 2023.

That’s a total of 381.39 billion francs.

“The commitment of the President of the Transition to honor the monthly deadlines is well kept every month, because the credibility of our country is at stake”, supports Mays Mouissi.
