Extra Day of Leap Year 2024: Google’s Doodle

by time news

The extra day of the leap year of 2024 and the last day of February reminds me Doodle η Google today, Thursday (29/2).

In this Doodle, a frog can be seen with the numbers 29, 28 and one, Google marking the extra day in February.

A year with 366 days is called a leap year, in order to correct “errors” caused by the imprecise calculation of the length of the day, a complete revolution of the Earth, in the measurement of the solar year.

With the time measurement system used in the Western world today (Gregorian calendar), each year is 365 days and 6 hours, or about 1/4 of a day, resulting in an “error” of one full day every four years.

Thus in the same system it is established that a day is added to the year every four years (except years divisible by a hundred but not by four hundred and except years divisible by both a hundred and four thousand), so that the error of six hours is absorbed.
