Demonstrations and clashes again on Bar Ilan Street in Jerusalem: More than a hundred members of the Haredi community demonstrated tonight (Wednesday) against the construction of the light rail on the spot and confronted the police with violence.

According to the Israel Police, dozens of protesters entered the light rail works site, blocked the road intermittently, violated public order and threw stones and objects, among other things, at the tools at the site.

Police forces worked to restore order at the scene and in the process arrested at least 4 suspects for violating public order. Among the detainees was an Arab who threw a stone at the protesters. He allegedly threw the stone after protesters smashed his window.

The Israel Police stated: “The Israel Police will continue to allow freedom of protest as a matter of law, but will not allow violent riots and a violation of public order in violation of the law.”
