Even when he starts from afar, Max Verstappen is insatiable. Only 9th on the starting grid, the reigning world champion quickly caught up to race in the lead. The Red Bull driver finished ahead of his teammate Sergio Pérez, who started from pole position, confirming the domination of the Austrian manufacturer since the start of the season.

The two men, at the top of the World Championship standings, have indeed won the five Grand Prix contested this season (3 for Verstappen, 2 for Pérez). For the fourth time, the podium is completed by veteran Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), confirming his 3rd place in the standings.

Gasly and Ocon limit damage

The trends observed in the first races of the year were confirmed for the Ferrari drivers, since Carlos Sainz (5th) and Charles Leclerc (7th) were not able to play the leading roles. The Monegasque, victim of an accident the day before in Q3, did not recover and was overtaken by Lewis Hamilton (6th) in the last laps of the race.

For its part, the French duo of Alpine, composed of Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon, had been put under pressure by Laurent Rossi, their boss. The two drivers finished 8th and 9th respectively and therefore gained important points in the standings. Note that, extremely rare, there was not the slightest retirement during the race. The 20 drivers on the starting grid all finished the Grand Prix. This case had only happened ten times in the history of Formula 1, over more than a thousand races. This had not happened for almost two years, at the Turkish Grand Prix in 2021.
