Lewis Hamilton triumphs in the Baharin GP, the opening race of the 2021 Formula 1 World Championship. The English driver of Mercedes, world champion in office, precedes the Red Bull of Dutch driver Max Verstappen. Third place for the other Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas. Sixth place for Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari.
THE RACE – The fight between Hamilton’s Mercedes and Verstappen’s Red Bull was 56 laps. The two drivers took turns leading the race but in the end the Mercedes strategy paid off even if at the last breath. Three laps from the end Verstappen overtook Hamilton but the Dutchman was forced to return the position to the British on the indication of the pits for having passed by passing off the track. At this point Hamilton gained ground and did not allow any more openings to his rival, going on to win the first GP of the new season. Third place and fastest lap for Valtteri Bottas ‘other Mercedes, followed by Lando Norris’ McLaren and Sergio Perez’s other Red Bull. Sixth is the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc.
In seventh place Daniel Ricciardo’s Renault followed by Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari eighth in his debut with the Red. Ninth place for Yuki Tsunoda on Alpha Tauri and 10th for Lance Stroll on Aston Martin. The two Alfa Romeos finished 11th with Raikkonen and 12th with Giovinazzi, 15th place for Sebastian Vettel’s Aston Martin, 16th place for Mick Schumacher’s Haas, Mazepin, Alonso and Gasly out of the game. The World Championship returns on April 18th with the Imola GP.
