The Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC) has asked for prayers for its General Assembly, which begins next week, to mark its fiftieth anniversary.

At the 50th General Assembly of the FABC Federation, which will begin on Monday, August 22, at the Blessed Nicholas Bunkerd Kitbamrung Temple in Bangkok, Thailand, discussions will be held on the activities of the Federation in the coming years.

The bishops have asked Catholics to pray especially for this meeting.

During his three-day apostolic visit to the Philippines from November 27 to 29, 1970, Pope St. Paul VI, 180 Asian Catholic bishops held a week-long meeting in Manila for the first time. Pope Saint Paul VI attended the final part of the meeting. In this event where the three fathers met Asian bishops, the Federation of Asian Synods was formed.

Eager to strengthen unity among Asian bishops and to express the meaning of “Christianity in Asia” in the light of the Second Vatican Council, the bishops named their confederation FABC.
