It was thrilling until the end, the Bernese Cantonal, which concluded the wrestling festival triple in Burgdorf. The winner was 24-year-old Guggisberger Eidgenosse Fabian Staudenmann. In the last second of the final bout, he defeated the Northeast Swiss guest Samuel Giger. Both had to work hard in the heat. The honorary place went to Matthias Aeschbacher, who could have benefited from a tied final bout and could have been declared the winner. The victory at the Bernese Cantonal is Staudenmann’s 14th festival win.
Exciting Matches in the Burgdorf Heat
The third place was taken by Armon Orlik. He ranked just ahead of Samuel Giger in a shared fourth place (with Florian Gnägi and Adrian Walther). Bernhard Kämpf was able to take home his 101st wreath.
Missed Wreaths
The following Eidgenossen missed the wreath: Severin Schwander, Romain Collaud, Christian Gerber, Lario Kramer, Dominik Gasser, Konrad Steffen, and Jonas Burch. There were no new wreath winners to report.
Farewell to Wrestling King Kilian Wenger
After the lunch break, everything was set for the farewell of wrestling king Kilian Wenger. Clearly emotional, he thanked all his companions on the journey. Now his great active career is over, and he has hung up his wrestling pants, which was met with thunderous applause and standing ovations.
