Facebook Inc. announced a new policy regarding content that contains bullying and harassment of users. The company now intends to remove malicious content and provide additional protection to public figures exposed to attacks on the social network, Facebook said in a statement.

“Now we will remove more harmful content that attacks public figures, as well as provide additional protection to public figures who have become known unwittingly, such as human rights defenders and journalists,” – follows from the statement. In addition, Facebook intends to combat sexual content, as well as objectionable comments of such content, which could qualify as sexual harassment.

“It is important that everyone who uses our applications feels secure when interacting with their communities. We do not tolerate bullying and harassment on our platform, but when it happens, we take action. We remove content that violates our policies and deactivate accounts of people who repeatedly violate our policies. We also regularly test this policy with our security experts, making changes as needed, ”the company said.

On October 4, Facebook, as well as a number of company-owned services such as Instagram and the WhatsApp messenger, suffered a long-term global outage. It affected users all over the world, including Russia.
