Facebook has published a report on what content is most often seen by social network users on their page, as well as what links, domains and posts were most popular among American users in the second quarter of this year. From now on, Facebook intends to publish such research on a quarterly basis as an addition to its transparency report.
The current report covers only the US market and includes an analysis of views of publicly available content that appeared in the Facebook news feed for users from April 1 to June 30, 2021. The analysis did not take into account the content of other sections of the social network, as well as advertising appearing in the news feed.
As you can see from the report, 57% of the posts that appear in the users’ feed are from friends and the people they follow. Much less frequently appears there content of groups to which the user is subscribed, or pages that he has marked as liked.
At the same time, the analysis of views shows that users much more often prefer to watch posts that do not contain external links than posts with links – 87.1% versus 12.9%.
Based on the results of the analysis of the viewed content, Facebook ranked the most popular domains, links and pages among users. It turned out that about a quarter of the most viewed domains are media. The share of video streaming services and online stores is slightly lower.
The most popular domains in Q2 were youtube.com, amazon.com, unicef.com, gofundme.com, and twitter.com.
The most viewed links were to the football fan site Player Alumni Resources, to the Pure Hemp Shop, and to UNICEF’s COVID-19 report in India.
The UNICEF page also topped the list of the most popular pages among Facebook users in the second quarter. In three months, it was viewed more than 153 million times.
In turn, the analysis of the most frequently viewed posts showed that users prefer uncomplicated entertaining content – with photos or videos. In the first place in popularity was the post, where users are invited to find words in the mass of letters that “will mean your reality.” In second place is a flash mob with photographs of young-looking people over the age of 30, and in third is the poll: “What will you never eat, even if you are brutally hungry?”
