Facebook has decided to suspend development of Instagram Kids, a children’s version of the service. This was announced on Monday, September 27, by Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri. “We think creating Instagram Kids is the right thing to do, but we are on hold. We use this time to work with parents, experts and politicians and demonstrate the value and necessity of this product, ”said Mr. Mosseri.

It was announced in March that Facebook is working on a version of Instagram for children. This version is intended for teens over the age of 13 and should have had no ads and no adult content among its features. However, in this version, Instagram Kids drew vigorous criticism from parents, legislators and human rights activists working on children’s rights. In their opinion, even in this version, Instagram will be harmful for adolescents, in addition, despite the age restrictions, younger children will still register there.

Recently, The Wall Street Journal published data from an internal study conducted by Instagram itself, which showed the negative impact of the platform on the self-esteem and attitude of a large part of the audience, especially teenage girls.
