For several weeks, it has been raining heavily in Kinshasa or what’s left of it. According to my friend who knows what’s going on in every nook and cranny of ruined Kinshasa, everything stops here when it rains. Like sugar or salt, Kinois is soluble in water. It becomes invisible on the roads. Rain is a great excuse for not working, for not keeping appointments.

Following the torrential rains, the level of the Congo River rose by some 3 to 4 meters. Beware of landslides and floods! Deadly floods have already been recorded in May in Kivu. This disaster affected thousands of people. It is now Greater Ecuador’s turn to be an expiatory victim. Hell and damnation! For almost two weeks, there have been floods in the territories of Bomongo (Ecuador) and Budjala (South Ubangui), putting the populations in disarray. The waters of the Congo River and various watercourses have left their beds. Stupor and tremors! Schools are closed, roads are destroyed, crops are ravaged. These appear to be the consequences of climate change. Saperlipopette!

According to my know-it-all friend, climate change is caused by the increase in the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. These gases are produced by human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, intensive agriculture. Oil, natural gas and coal are naturally the main drivers of global warming. Which results in adverse consequences on the environment and human life, such as rising sea levels, flooding, increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, melting of glaciers and loss of biodiversity. According to some scientists, the effects of climate change will be much less if global temperatures rise by 1.5°C rather than 2°C above pre-industrial levels. Building on this, the Paris Agreement of December 2015 recommended keeping the increase in global average temperature at a level below 2°C.

This perhaps explains this, Eve Bazaïba, our distinguished Minister of the Environment recommended, during COP 28 which takes place in Dubai, to tax the Jaguar and Lacoste brands to finance biodiversity. These companies misuse the image of the crocodile and the jaguar which abound in our forests. According to the image protection law, anyone who uses another’s image for commercial purposes without their consent must pay. It was like Christopher Columbus’ egg, you had to think about it! Only, there is no jaguar in our country coveted by all neighboring countries and China! Saperlipopette! Perhaps because of climate change, the jaguar has finally emigrated to us and is basking in our forests. The super predator had previously lived quietly in Latin America, feeding on many caimans, capybaras, tapirs, peccaries, deer, and snakes. Let’s hope this isn’t a slip of the tongue.

Every action causes an equal or opposite reaction. This is Newton’s third law. Climate skeptics question the human cause of global warming. According to them, greenhouse gas is not the only source of climate change. These scientists claim that our planet has already experienced similar situations. Anyway next!

For a while now, my friend who has gone crazy has been shaken by sardonic laughter. His neighbor who is « Wewa » (motorcycle taxi driver) told him that the future belongs to those who get up early. Putting his words into action, he took out his motorcycle at 4:30 a.m. But his path crossed that of «to your servant» (thugs). Hell and damnation! They took his motorcycle, his cell phone and some money. According to him, you should never rush.

We say that perseverance is a talisman for life.
