Faced with the “triple epidemic”, the Minister of Health calls for a “jump” in vaccination

by time news

Will the exercise be enough to dissipate the reservations of those who, on the ground, among health actors but not only, are demanding that the government be clearer about its health doctrine? While a « triple vague » – mixing the viruses of bronchiolitis, Covid-19 and influenza – sweeps over France, increasing the pressure on an already saturated health system, the Minister of Health and Prevention, François Braun, tried his hand , Friday, December 9, to defend its strategy. A non-coercive strategy: “Faced with this triple epidemic, we need a triple burst of vaccination, barrier gestures, and support for committed professionals”hammered the minister in front of the press, calling for the ” responsibility “ and at the “solidarity” the French.

“I solemnly call for a jump in vaccination” : this message, repeated on Friday, François Braun had already chanted it throughout the week on radio and television sets, echoing the terms used, before the Assembly, by the Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, on November 29 . Does this mean that prevention messages are no longer getting through – or badly – to the French, after nearly three years and nine waves of Covid-19? “The messages were the same for all the waves, but they went less well, or were perhaps less well relayed” in recent weeks, conceded the minister.

A little late clarification

For several days, while the epidemic rebound has been played out in a certain general indifference, questions have been raised, from almost everywhere on the ground, on the ” target “ recall campaigns but also on the refusal of certain pharmacists to vaccinate under 60s. Do people who already have four doses need to request an additional one? What to do in case of infection between two doses? What deadlines to respect? The note sent to all professionals on November 21, to clear up the vagueness, did not reach the ears of all French people. “Vaccination against influenza and against Covid is open to all”, now hammers François Braun, and not only to those most at risk.

A somewhat late clarification, we react in specialist circles. “This message on vaccination open to all has the merit of simplifyingsays Mahmoud Zureik, professor of epidemiology and public health at the University of Versailles-Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. Until now, the target audiences seemed unclear to the population. »
