FACh deployed F-5 aircraft after alert of an alleged violation of airspace in Magallanes: this is what the Government said

Following the alert of an “unidentified aerial movement”, the Government said that it is already establishing contacts with the Argentine embassy.

The Government of Chile confirmed that the Chilean Air Force (FACh) activated an air operation from the Chabunco air base in Punta Arenas, where it deployed fighter planes in response to rumors of a salleged violation of airspace by Argentina.

In this context, the Minister of Defense, Maya Fernandezstated that “yesterday (August 27) around 8 pm in the eastern part of the Strait of Magellan There was an alert for unidentified air traffic in response to which our Chilean Air Force (FACh) activated the protocols, F-5 planes taking off in safeguarding our sovereignty.”

Following this action, the Secretary of State said that “contact with this air traffic was lost and at this time, An investigation is underway.”.

Taking into account the above, Maya Fernández stated that “for the peace of mind of the citizensthe Air Force activated the protocols and defended our border and sovereignty accordingly”.

For her part, the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohasaid that they have already established Contacts with the Government of Javier Milei by the Chilean ambassador to Argentina, Antonio Viera-Gallo.

In this regard, the minister explained: “All these contacts are being made and we have to clarify if it was really a ship, “What type of aircraft, whether it was private, whether it was a plane or a helicopter. All of that has to be part of the investigation that is being carried out.”

“The important thing is that the population knows that everything here was done as it should be. This aircraft was identified, action was taken according to protocol, the Air Force went to protect and safeguard our airspace and at that moment the aircraft left the national territory,” added Carolina Tohá.
