The National Government through the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) that promotes the Project to Strengthen Intercultural Health in Ecuador seeks to strengthen the structure of human talent in health establishments nationwide. For this reason, the José María Velasco Ibarra General Hospital, located in Tena, Napo province, will have an intercultural facilitator of Waorani nationality.

Among the functions that the official will carry out is to generate the participatory link with the communities and social organizations of the locality, in addition to working together with health personnel and articulating with community leaders for comprehensive health care with an intercultural approach.

It will be in charge of translation into the original language, territorial diagnoses, support in the identification of health problems and in the referral and counter-referral of patients. Likewise, it will intervene in the dissemination of the provision of services to the population and the generation of intercultural edu-communication strategies in the native language.

It is important to emphasize that the province of Napo and the Amazon Region is plurinational and intercultural, for this reason this health center has user care staff of different nationalities such as: Kichwas, Mestizos and now Waorani.
