The faithful of the Assembly of God in Sorriso (MT) were surprised by a violent attack at the moment of prayer when a man entered carrying a hatchet.
The man, described as a wanderer, went to the service at the Assembly of God Viva pela Fé church, with a hatchet hidden in a backpack. He took advantage of the moment of prayer, when everyone’s eyes were closed, to pull out the tool in order to start the attack.
However, one of the faithful who were in the cult suspected the boy and did not close her eyes during prayer. The city has a record of a similar case in 2019, when a pastor suffered three machete blows while praying.
With this precaution, the believer was able to warn the other brothers and thus avoided a real carnage in the temple, according to information on the portal. Jornal Estadão MT.
An elderly woman, visually impaired, gave guidance to the sister who realized the criminal’s intention and recommended that she take her to a bathroom and call the children to hide in the same room. The man ended up immobilized by the faithful themselves, who took the hatchet, while they called the Military Police for the emergency service.
Amidst the confusion, the wanderer managed to escape. Another man, also unknown, was in the church and took advantage of the moment of escape to pick up the tool left behind by the suspect and left with it, taking it away.
When the PM arrived at the scene, they were informed of the appearance of the men who had been at the temple, and they searched the surroundings of the Industrial Sector neighborhood of the municipality, but did not locate any of them.
A police report (BO) was registered and the case is being investigated by the Civil Police.
