Islamabad: The Pakistani Army has arrested former ISI chief Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid. During Imran Khan’s rule, Faiz Hamid was considered one of the most powerful people in Pakistan. However, as soon as his government fell, Faiz Hamid’s bad days started. There came a time when Faiz Hamid had to resign before retirement. Imran Khan wanted to make Faiz Hamid the next army chief in the last days of his tenure, but the then Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa opposed it and put forward the name of Asim Munir, popularly known as Mullah General. Later Imran Khan’s government fell and after that Shahbaz Sharif, who sat on the Prime Minister’s chair, appointed Asim Munir as the Army Chief.

Why was Faiz Hamid arrested

The Pakistani Army’s propaganda wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has said in its statement that Faiz Hamid’s arrest has been made following the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The Pakistani Army has said in its statement that a detailed investigation was conducted to find out the complaints against Faiz Hamid. The statement further states that appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated against Faiz Hamid under the provisions of the Pakistan Army Act. The army has said that several cases of violation of the Pakistan Army Act have also been proved against Faiz Hamid. In such a situation, court martial proceedings have been initiated against him.

Who is Faiz Hamid?

Faiz Hameed is a retired three-star general of the Pakistan Army. Faiz Hameed was the head of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI from 2019 to 2022. He was the 24th Director General of ISI. After joining the army, Faiz Hameed was commissioned in the Baloch Regiment. He served as the GOC of the 16th Infantry Division Pano Aqil of the Pakistan Army. He last served as the commander of XXXI Corps in Peshawar before retiring prematurely on 10 December 2022.

How did Faiz Hamid join the army

Faiz Hameed was born in Latifal village in Chakwal. He joined the Pakistan Military Academy in 1987. He completed his graduation from the Command and Staff College, Quetta and was commissioned in the Baloch Regiment of the Pakistan Army. He has three brothers, Sardar Sikandar Hayat, Sardar Najaf and Sardar Khizar. His brother Sikandar Hayat died in an accident in 2016, while his brother Sardar Najaf Hameed is a land revenue officer in his hometown. Faiz Hameed’s family belongs to Chakwal, which is known for producing military commanders of the Pakistan Army.
