Fake “Crit’air” sites to steal the data of those who order their sticker

by time news

A phishing SMS campaign is trying to trick drivers who have not yet requested their Crit’air sticker. The messages trick users into clicking on a hacked link, which then steals their personal data.

A misleading SMS for Parisian drivers

After Paris, the cities of Marseille, Lyon and Rouen will impose the obligation of the Crit’air sticker to circulate. Drivers who have not yet ordered their obligatory sticker for driving sometimes do so in a hurry, and are thus potential victims of this scam. To deceive users, hackers have created a site that perfectly imitates the official Air Certificate site. The site encourages the victim to complete a fake form, promising to receive a sticker after paying the sum of 2.95 euros. When paying, banking information is stolen, allowing cyber scammers to make purchases with the driver’s bank details. Reported by Numerama, this site impersonating Air Certificate has been shut down, but that does not stop scammers from creating new fake sites with the same goal.

Be vigilant and make sure you are on the official website address

The communication team of the device recalls that the ministry does not send an SMS message referring to sites to bring the sticker. With the generalization of the mandatory sticker, a wave of fraudulent sites is likely to emerge. To escape this scam, just check the domain name of the site before making a purchase, and in no case should you access the site from an SMS.
