Cairo Crackdown: Unlicensed Clinics and Imposter Doctors Endanger Patients

Meta Description: Authorities in Cairo have arrested two individuals – an engineer and a Secretariat Institute graduate – for practicing medicine without licenses and performing dangerous plastic surgery procedures.

A disturbing trend of unqualified individuals offering medical services has come to light in Cairo, with authorities recently arresting two people for impersonating doctors and performing potentially life-threatening procedures. The cases, unfolding in the Heliopolis and Nasr City districts, highlight a critical gap in oversight and the risks faced by patients seeking cosmetic enhancements.

Unlicensed Plastic Surgery Rings Busted in Cairo

The crackdown began with the arrest of a woman operating a beauty center in Heliopolis. Investigations revealed she was a graduate of the Secretariat Institute, not a qualified medical professional, yet she was conducting plastic surgery on patients. A doctor, alerted to the dangerous practice, filed a complaint with the Heliopolis Police Department after witnessing the damage caused to patients.

“The investigations show that she was impersonating a doctor and deluding patients with her ability to perform plastic surgery,” a senior official stated. A team from the Ministry of Health’s Free Treatment Department subsequently inspected the center and confirmed the owner’s lack of medical credentials.

Second Arrest in Nasr City: A Dermatologist Impersonator

Just months prior, security services in Nasr City apprehended an engineer also posing as a doctor. This individual was operating an unlicensed dermatology clinic and performing plastic surgery procedures. Investigations by the General Administration of Supply and Internal Trade Police uncovered a broader scheme involving the sale of “anonymous and customs smuggled” drugs with potentially harmful effects on public health.

The suspect was allegedly motivated by “the intention of achieving illegal profits,” according to a statement released by the economic security sector. The Nasr City Prosecution ordered the suspect to be held for four days pending further investigation before referring the case to criminal trial.

Rising Concerns Over Unqualified Practitioners

These arrests underscore a growing concern about the proliferation of unlicensed medical practitioners in Cairo. The cases raise serious questions about patient safety and the effectiveness of regulatory oversight. The Ministry of Health has not yet released a comprehensive statement addressing the systemic issues that allowed these practices to flourish.

. The potential for long-term health complications and psychological trauma for patients subjected to these procedures is significant. Authorities are urging anyone who may have received treatment from these individuals to seek immediate medical attention.

The ongoing investigation aims to identify any additional individuals involved in these illicit operations and to strengthen regulations to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
