The lawyers have started the process of withdrawing the ‘production warrants’ after the bail of all cases filed against BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

They said that these two top leaders of BNP may be released from prison today at noon. Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukder said these things on Thursday (February 15) morning.

They said that BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury were arrested in those cases, they got bail from the court. As there is a legal provision to withdraw production warrants for court appearance in those cases, we are already starting work to withdraw those production warrants. When these are over they will be released. We expect the production warrant withdrawal papers to reach the jail by noon.

Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukder said that there are production warrants in 13 cases in the name of BNP Secretary General. Yesterday (Wednesday), Acting Judge Faisal Atiq bin Quader of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court granted bail to the two senior BNP leaders in the case filed by the police regarding the attack on the residence of the Chief Justice on the day of the BNP’s general meeting in Dhaka on October 28. They were granted bail in 10 other cases before the bail in this case.

Regarding the bail of these two leaders, their lawyer, former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Advocate Zainal Abedin, said that there is no obstacle to their release now that all the cases filed against BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury have been granted bail.

Incidentally, on October 29, the Intelligence Police picked up BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and on November 2 the party’s Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury from their homes and later arrested them in the case of the attack on the Chief Justice’s residence on the day of the BNP General Assembly on October 28.
