BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called for the unconditional release of the quota reform activists, withdrawal of the army to the barracks, withdrawal of the ban on gatherings and the opening of all the educational institutions of the country.

He said, the government is doing whatever it wants to protect itself from public anger by showing thumbs up to law, constitution, democratic norms, humanity. In doing this, the state system has been destroyed and lost its democratic and humane character. The government has turned the country into a failed state by destroying the constitutional rights of people including democracy, voting rights, freedom of speech, expression, and anti-discrimination.

BNP Secretary General said these things in a statement on Thursday (August 1).

He said that the government has launched a barbaric attack to suppress the ordinary students in the quota reform movement. Many parents still can’t find their children. Parents of many students are worried and helpless as they cannot be found.

Mirza Fakhrul said the government is spreading fear and terror among the parents, the youth and the public, while the law and order forces are conducting ‘block raids’ and arresting students indiscriminately during the curfew. There was no benefit from doing all this, instead, ignoring the government’s tactics, the students are taking forward the movement with new enthusiasm.
