The Falconian Magaly García conquered a national record in the 42K of the VII edition of the CAF Caracas Marathon 2023, this Sunday, March 19.

The return of the CAF Marathon brought together more than 5,000 runners from more than 20 countries and from all regions of Venezuela.

Records on the 2023 CAF Marathon route

The winner of the marathon in the 21 km category was Joselyn Brea, who prevailed in the competition in a time of 1:13:25.

While the winner from the male representatives in the same category was Mauricio González, who reached the finish line with a time of 1:03:05.

The CAF Marathon is considered an iconic event in the country’s sports calendar; as well as an opportunity to enjoy a happy, safe and sporty morning for the inhabitants of the Venezuelan capital.

The CAF 2023 marathon route began at 6:00 in the morning from Parque Los Caobos, as in previous years, and the route crossed the municipalities of Libertador, Baruta, Sucre and Chacao, ending at the starting point.

Winners of the CAF Marathon

The winner of the men’s competition, Justino Da Silva, thanked CAF for the opportunity and highlighted the quality and logistics of the race.

“It is very exciting for me to be able to represent my country. I want to congratulate all the athletes, there was a high level and it gave me a lot of work to stand out”.

For her part, Magaly García congratulated the organizers for bringing the race back to Venezuela, which is a festival of sport at a very high level.

“I am grateful for winning CAF and breaking the national record. Thank God that he never abandons me, my coach, my family, my mother, my training partners and all those who believed in me and joined in supporting me. This triumph is for each one of you. We are going for great things ”, she highlighted.

Records were also broken in the women’s 21K modality.

Joselyn Brea took first place, achieving a time of 01:13’25”, with a national record and the CAF Marathon.

Followed by the Panamanian Egris Arias 01:18’35” and María Garrido (Venezuela) from third with 01:27’17”.

In the men’s category, José González (Colombia) was the winner with a time of 01:03’07”.

Then the Venezuelans Whinton Palma 01:06’15” and Gregori Ibarra 01:08’41”, in second and third place respectively.

In the reduced mobility category, Juan Valladares established himself as the maximum champion by reaching his fifth title with a time of 53′ 40″.

While in the female modality Yenny Ruza was crowned with 01:41’48”.

The CAF Marathon is considered a world-class race, a benchmark throughout the region.

In this year’s edition, a 39% female participation for the 21K and 44% for the 42K stands out, a record figure.
