  • One of the most common mistakes patients make is confusing general practitioners with specialists like surgeons.
  • The Mexican Council of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery is the only Certifying Body in Mexico endorsed by CONACEM.

All health professionals are human and therefore are exposed to making mistakes. It is a risk to which they are exposed from the novice to the most prepared. Although one of the problems within this guild is that there are many fake doctors who impersonate identities and now a case has been reported in our country that culminated in the death of a patient during surgery.

This unfortunate incident occurred in Jalisco when a 34-year-old woman decided to undergo an aesthetic procedure to shape her figure. In her case, she focused on liposuction, although her main mistake was going to the wrong people.

His name was Nayely Guzman and in the first instance he went to a place called Viceroyes “Kenari” Medical Specialties. According to the investigation, the medical personnel in charge would have promised him a liposculpture surgery in 12 areas of the body.

One of the inconsistencies started when there was a last minute change. Due to supposedly damaged oxygen tanks, the patient was transferred to another place located in Tepatitlán. The clandestine clinic was inside a restaurant and an operating room was improvised there, but the end result was deadly.

During the procedure, the inconsistencies continued until the unfortunate death of the woman. According to the death certificate, the cause of death was a malpractice which caused him a heart attack due to loss of blood.

When going to the clandestine clinic, only one doctor was found, who did not have the specialty of Surgery and therefore was not certified. While the other alleged health professionals who participated fled. At the moment, the search for the rest of the staff is ongoing.

A general practitioner should not be confused with a surgeon.

To be a general practitioner, it is required to have a full Bachelor’s degree that lasts 7 years. Although to be a surgeon it is necessary to prolong the training with the plastic surgery specialty and also must be certified. In this way you can be sure that you have the necessary studies and knowledge to carry out a procedure of this type.

The problem is that in recent years there has been a proliferation of fake plastic surgeons in the country. In this case, they are general practitioners who only take a course lasting a few months and from then on they pose as specialists. The reality is that they are not and they not only commit a crime but also put the health of patients at risk.
