These campaigns are led by both the dictatorship of Russia and extreme Islamists, who have formed an alliance in inciting hatred against Sweden.
Recently, a horrifying video has been circulating widely on the internet. The footage is from a mosque shooting that took place in Lebanon on Friday. An attacker opened fire during prayer time in a mosque in the town of Bar Elias, resulting in the death of at least one person and several others being injured. However, those sharing the video claim that the incident occurred in Sweden, falsely pointing the blame at the country.
The misleading film clip has already garnered over five million views and received over 100,000 likes, tens of thousands of comments, and shares on Facebook alone. It has also been widely circulated on the social media platform Tiktok.
The disinformation campaigns have raised alarm among authorities. The authority for psychological defense, MPF, has warned about the extensive disinformation campaigns targeting Sweden on social media and other online platforms. Mikael Östlund, the head of communications for MPF, emphasized the aggressive and threatening expressions used in these campaigns.
According to MPF, the disinformation campaign against Sweden revolves around three gross lies. The first is that Sweden’s government and people support extremism, racism, and hatred. The second lie is that the Swedish government desires to smear and desecrate the Koran. Lastly, the third lie claims that Sweden discriminates against Muslims and Islam, only allowing the burning of the Koran while protecting other religious scriptures. MPF clarifies that all three statements are false.
