Ganesh Batra (25) hails from Adeikowan village in Ganjam district of Odisha. He and Basanthi Batra (23) got married in 2020. They have a 2.5 year old daughter. There were frequent family disputes between husband and wife.

A month and a half ago, Basanti Batra and her child were found dead after being bitten by a poisonous snake in the bedroom of the house. In this regard, the police registered a case of unnatural death and investigated. Ganesh Batra had told the police that he was sleeping in another room when the incident took place.

In this case, Basanthi Batra’s father filed a complaint with the police saying that his daughter’s death is suspicious. After this, the investigation conducted by the police revealed that Ganesh Batra had killed his wife and child by biting them with a snake. For this, he lied to a snake owner that he wanted to perform puja and bought a poisonous snake. The police said that he admitted that he had left it in the room where the wife and child were sleeping.
