Ottawa: Canada to allow family members of foreign workers with open work permits to work in the country. This move of the Canadian government is to solve the labor shortage that the country is experiencing. It will come into effect from January 2023.
Under the new policy, spouses and children of workers with open work permits will be able to work in Canada starting January 2023, Minister Sean Fraser announced. Fraser added that employers will be able to find the workers they need and address labor shortages. Previously, only spouses of highly skilled workers were allowed to work.
With the new measure, family members of more than two lakh workers will be able to find jobs in the country. Many foreigners including Indian professionals will get jobs with this. Temporary permission will be granted for two years. The proposal will be implemented in three phases for successful implementation. An open work permit allows foreigners to work in Canada under any employer.
